Elf on the Shelf has been around for years, but only recently has it seemed to really become popular.  The Elf makes his first appearance on December 1st and watches over the children each day.  At the end of the day, the Elf magically makes his journey back to the North Pole and reports to Santa Claus whether the kids have been naughty or nice.

The Elf will return each morning before the children wake up. Sometimes, he will bring treats from Santa.  Or perhaps, if needed, give ideas on how to improve behavior if the child has been naughty.

Last year, our Elf, who we named Jingles, made his first appearance.  Jingles was such a huge hit that the kids were besides themselves with excitement last night in hopes he would return.  Since I wasn't home this morning when they woke up, I don't know if he's returned.  I will know later, I'm sure.

Last year, the kids woke up to find Jingles taken hostage by our swarm of nutcrackers.  After they got home from school, things had been switched up a bit and Jingles got his revenge!
