The sport of disc golf has taken Maine by storm in the past few years, with many different courses popping up across the state. This sport has become more and more popular over the past few years. It's a great way to get some exercise, get outside, and have a little competitive gaming, at any age!

What some disc golfers may not realize is the sport was invented a very long time ago! The game truly began in the 70's, although similar games were already being played.

The Professional Disc Golf Association has over 86,000 members and there are thousands of courses located all over the globe.

The game itself? Throwing discs are used in place of golf balls; instead of clubs, players use their arms to throw the disc; instead of a hole to aim towards, there is a disc pole hole, patented by Ed Headrick.

According to the PDGA, the Official Rules to play are a little less lenient than how my friends and I play...

Typically only $5 to play, here is a list of some of my favorite courses in Central Maine:

  • Quaker Hill at 146 Middle Rd in Fairfield
  • D 'n' D Disc Golf on Philbrick Rd in Sidney
  • Quarry Run in Augusta
  • Belgrade Lakes Disc Golf at 311 Mercer Rd in Rome
  • Skyriders on Ohio Hill Rd in Fairfield
  • Porcupine Ridge on Church Hill Rd in Augusta

Let me know which course is your favorite so I can check it out!
