The New Jersey state legislature has taken a bill under consideration that could stop residents from drinking coffee while driving in to work every morning.

According to USA Today, the bill would prohibit "any activity unrelated to the actual operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that interferes with the safe operation of the vehicle on a public road or highway."

The proposed legislation is meant to target distracted driving, but would prohibit any eating or drinking, while driving.

Maine's current distracted driving law does not prohibit all activity. According to distraction.gov, Maine does ban all cell phone use (handheld and hands-free) for novice drivers and bans texting for drivers of all ages. Maine defines novice drivers as drivers of all ages under the age of 18.
