There are rallies today at the State House in Augusta in both support and opposition of Gov. LePage. The governor recently admitted that he threatened to withhold more than $500,000 in funding for a charter school operated by Good-Will Hinckley, if they did not reverse a decision made last month to hire Democratic House Speaker Mark Eves as their new president.

Last week the school board fired Eves.

Eves says that Gov. LePage's tactics were "blackmail."

The governor and his supporters say that the school never should have hired Eves because of his opposition to charter schools and lack of experience in education.

Lawmakers from both parties are asking for an independent investigation in the scandal.

Meanwhile, today in Augusta, supporters of Gov. LePage held a rally this morning and those against the governor will be protesting today at noon.
