Dolly Parton recently announced that she will head out on a North American tour -- her largest in 25 years -- in 2016, but it isn't something she's been planning for a while. In fact, her schedule is already pretty jam-packed without factoring in touring.

"I wasn't really planning to do a tour this year, because I've got so many things going on ... I thought, 'Well, I don’t really have the time; I don’t want to take the time to work up some big show with all kinds of stuff behind [it],'" Parton told The Boot and other reporters at a recent media event. "[But] I know I can sing. I know I’ve got all these songs ... And I thought, 'Well, I have my stories. I have my songs.'"

And once she realized that she could "simplify things" and "take inventory of where I've come from [and] who I am," it turned out that a tour really did make sense, especially due to the success of her recent European tour.

"We had so many people say, ‘Why go overseas? You don’t ever come to do a whole tour here,'" Parton notes. "I thought it was a good idea to do it now because of so many good things that are going on. We’ve had a lot of requests to go a lot of places."

Parton reveals that her show will be largely acoustic, allowing her voice to take center stage.

"I'll do a lot of talking. What else would I do, right?" she jokes. "We’re excited about the whole show. We did some shows at the Ryman last year and some shows at Dollywood for the Imagination Library, and we used the Pure & Simple show. We’ve added some new things to it, of course, but people really liked it. They said they could hear good, they could see good. We’re excited about that."

The country icon's tour will also coincide with the release of a new double-disc album, Pure & Simple With Dolly’s Biggest Hits, which will include some brand-new songs as well as several beloved classics. The 70-year-old hints that she has so many new projects on the horizon that she may not have time to tour for a while after 2016.

"I wanted to tour this coming year -- even though I’ve got a lot of stuff in the works -- I wanted to do that because next year, I might possibly do a [TV] series," Parton reveals. "I’m certainly getting really involved in the production of the TV show, so I might do more business things and just do some shows here and there.

"... and it helps to promote the park and a record," she adds. "Plus, I love the fans, and I love to get out there and see them."

Parton has not yet announced all of her Pure & Simple Tour dates, but she has revealed that she will play at the LeConte Center in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., on Nov. 15, as a benefit for her Imagination Library. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on July 1, with pre-sale access for Dollywood season passholders at an earlier time. More information on the show and the entire tour will be available on Parton's official website.
