3D TV was supposed to be the next big thing and ESPN jumped on the bandwagon early with their ESPN 3D channel, but they announced today they will be phasing out the channel and eventually closing it down. They said they will start focusing on other products for their fans and affiliates.

Several factors are to blame for 3D TV not making it…not many people are buying 3D televisions, there are a limited amount of live broadcasts in 3D and there aren’t many 3D Blue-ray movies available. With all of that said and the fact that ESPN, one of the largest supporters of 3D, getting out of the market, it doesn’t look good to the 3D market.

It’s yet to be seen if 3D in movie theaters will be successful and if the overall experience will be worth the more expensive ticket price.
