Dick MacPherson grew up in Old Town, Maine and went on to coach the New England Patriots, died at the age of 86.

MacPherson coached the Pats from 1991-1992 and is member of the College Football Hall of Fame. He coached at the University of Massachusetts and Syracuse University. He died at a hospital in Syracuse, New York.

According to pressherald.com MacPherson drafted former Maine player and Coach Jack Cosgrove to play at UMASS but Cosgrove ended up playing for Maine but always remembered MacPherson as a great friend, supporter and mentor.

In 17 years as a college head coach, he compiled a 111-73-5 record and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009. MacPherson was 8-24 in two seasons with the Patriots.
