State Police have charged a Fairfield mother with murder in connection with the death of her newborn infant. Detectives arrested 20 year old Kayla Stewart at her home along Route 139 in Fairfield on Jan. 22 and charged her with murder, said Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland. She was arrested without incident and taken to the Somerset County Jail. Stewart’s first court appearance will take place in Skowhegan Monday at 1 pm. She is charged in the death of her infant son whose body was found in the detached garage of her mobile home on January 11. Her longtime boyfriend, Nicholas Blood, continues to live at the mobile home and their three year old daughter is staying with relatives elsewhere, McCausland said.
