Legislators are considering a bill that would make the fishing day a little longer for Maine lobstermen.

The bill would extend the legal hours when lobsters can be harvested. The current laws do not allow lobster fishing from a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset from June 1 to October 31.

The new bill would change it so lobsters can be harvested starting a 5 a.m. in October. The proposal is up for public hearing before the legislature’s Marine Resources Committee.
