Here’s an update on the great Burmese python hunt in Florida, it’s not going very well. Florida has about 100,000 pythons in the Everglades and they are becoming an ecological nightmare, so the state is paying per catch. The hunt has been on for about a month and as many as 1,500 people registered to bag the pythons. The weather is not helping the hunters as it’s been unusually warm in Florida for this time of year and the snakes aren’t coming out to sunbathe. The question now is, are there as many Burmese Pythons in the Everglades as first thought or is that figure of 100,000 overblown? We may never know unless the state authorizes another hunt since the current one is over with a total of only 50 snakes caught.
