twitter
Geiger of Lewiston plans on laying off more than 100 factory employees and ending the manufacturing side of its’ business. The 135 year old company made the announcement Tuesday (Jan. 22) saying it’s one of the largest layoffs in the company’s history.

CEO Gene Geiger told the Lewiston Sun Journal that demand for the company’s bound paper products has dropped by about half in recent years due to popular electronic alternatives and manufacturing competition from Asia.

Employees were given 60 days notice and they will receive severance pay based on wages and number of years with the company.

Geiger does plan to keep producing the ‘Farmers’ Almanac.’
