George Strait was born and raised in Texas on his family’s ranch, a ranch that had been in the Strait family for nearly 100 years. George’s music career started when he was teenager playing in rock & roll garage band. He attended college, briefly, deciding to drop out, get married and join the Army. While in the Army is where he began playing country music.

He played in an Army-sponsored band, Rambling Country until 1975 when he left the Army and headed back to Texas and attended Southwest Texas State University where he formed his own band, Ace in the Hole. Strait tried Nashville in the late 70’s but failed there so he headed back to his home state. He made friends with a former MCA music exec and Texas club owner Erv Woolsey who brought a couple of MCA executives to Texas to hear George, the company signed him.

George Strat dominated the country singles charts throughout the 80’s and his success on the charts has not fallen off all the way into 2014. George Strait has 60 number one hits over his amazing career and sold more than 70 million albums, he is considered the 12th best-selling album recording artist of all time.
