There's been a ton of casting speculation involved in David Fincher's upcoming adaptation of the Gillian Flynn novel 'Gone Girl,' with names like Charlize Theron (who's starring in another Flynn adaptation, 'Dark Places') and Reese Witherspoon (who is producing the film but not starring) being tossed about, but now it looks like Fincher may have found his leading lady.

THR reports that Rosamund Pike ('Jack Reacher') is the current frontrunner for the role of Amy in Fincher's 'Gone Girl,' based on the hit novel by Gillian Flynn. Pike hasn't been previously mentioned along with any of the rumored contenders, like Natalie Portman (who was also up for the lead in Fincher's 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo') and Emily Blunt -- both of whom have been ruled out due to their lack of availability.

But a source tells THR that Pike is is the latest serious contender for the part, and in the end, it all comes down to what the director wants -- obviously. If cast, Pike would join Ben Affleck, who has been secured to play the role of Nick Dunne, husband of Amy and prime suspect when his wife mysteriously disappears. The novel could be a tricky one to adapt, given that most of the first half of the book is told through diary entries, but Flynn herself is adapting and working close with Fincher to bring her story to the big screen.
