According to the personal-finance website, WalletHub, Maine's school system is not as bad as we seem to hear about. They conducted an in-depth analysis of 2017's states with the 'Best & Worst School Systems,' and Maine came in 10th.

WalletHub’s analysts compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 21 different key measures of quality and safety. The data set they studied ranged from pupil-teacher ratio, to dropout rate, to median standardized-test scores.

Here is how Maine ranks:

  • 4th – Pupil-Teacher Ratio
  • 5th – Median ACT Score
  • 19th – Math Test Scores
  • 17th – Reading Test Scores
  • 12th – Dropout Rate
  • 7th – % of Threatened/Injured High School Students
