Hank Williams Jr. Returns To MNF
Six years ago, Hank Williams Jr. was critical of a sitting president. Soon after, ESPN, in a statement, said: "While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight's telecast."
Fast forward to 2017. For various reasons, ESPN has lost 12 million subscribers. They are also in the process of major restructuring as a result of major layoffs. Announced Monday, Williams' new version of “All My Rowdy Friends Are Here on Monday Night," with "Are you ready for some football?" will debut before a Sept. 11 game between the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings.
Williams, who debuted the football version in 1989, is elated. “I’m feeling at home and it’s a real good thing ... It’s kind of like the Nashville Predators playing for the Stanley Cup, it’s like ‘Wow.’”
