Gov. Paul LePage has caused another controversy after leaving a profanity-laced tirade on the voice mail of Westbrook State Rep. Drew Gattine (D), saying "I'm after you."

And it seems that the governor didn't even care who found out about the recorded message, as he openly tells Gattine on the recording to record it and release it to the public.

A story in the Portland Press Herald said LePage's voice mail outburst came after a television reporter suggested to LePage that Gattine had called the governor a racist, a claim which the paper said Gattine, who is in his second term in the Legislature and serves as the chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, subsequently denied.

This is the full transcript:

Mr. Gattine, this is Gov. Paul Richard LePage. I would like to talk to you about your comments about my being a racist, you **********. I want to talk to you. I want you to prove that I’m a racist. I’ve spent my life helping black people, and you little son-of-a-bitch, socialist **********. You... I need you to... just friggin. I want you to record this and make it public, because I am after you. Thank you.”

But the governor wasn't through with Gattine after the phone message became public. In the Press Herald story, LePage is quoted as saying he wished he could have a duel with Gattine.

“When a snot-nosed little guy from Westbrook calls me a racist, now I’d like him to come up here because, tell you right now, I wish it were 1825,” LePage said. “And we would have a duel, that’s how angry I am, and I would not put my gun in the air, I guarantee you, I would not be (Alexander) Hamilton. I would point it right between his eyes, because he is a snot-nosed little runt and he has not done a damn thing since he’s been in this Legislature to help move the state forward.” (source: Press Herald)

Gattine was unable to be reached for comment for this story, however the Maine House Democrats posted a response to LePage's comments on the group's Facebook page.

Democratic House Leadership: "“Paul LePage is not mentally or emotionally fit to hold office. His words and actions have crossed a line. Threats of violence are never acceptable and cannot be tolerated in civilized society.”
