The average heating oil prices in Maine have fallen to their lowest point in 10 years. The statewide average price for home heating oil in Maine has dropped to $1.99 a gallon, the lowest since 2004, according to the Governor's Energy Office.

Besides home owners spending less for heating oil this season, many school systems are looking forward to saving money as well.

The Winthrop Middle School could save more than $100,000, with lower energy costs and efficiency upgrades. The Winthrop School District paid $2.99 per gallon for heating fuel in the 2014-15 school year. This year they'll be paying $1.99 per gallon.
