We weren't altogether surprised to learn that CBS would attempt to parlay 'How I Met Your Mother' into a spinoff with 'How I Met Your Father,' but it seems the new female driven series will officially move forward, at least with one small caveat. Kids, get ready to find out 'How I Met Your Dad'!

CBS has officially given a pilot order to the "kindred spirit" spinoff of 'How I Met Your Mother,' to be helmed by series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, with the addition of 'Up All Night' creator Emily Spivey. While we know that 'How I Met Your Dad' will follow an entirely new gang hanging out at MacLaren's Pub, unclear is the reason for the 'Father' name tweak, or if the new gang will be introduced in the 'How I Met Your Mother' series finale, as originally reported.

Like 'How I Met Your Mother' before it, 'How I Met Your Dad' will focus on its main character's long road to finding their soulmate, presumably as told from a future perspective. None of the original 'HIMYM' gang will be present to anchor the spinoff, though we wouldn't rule out a cameo or two down the line, should CBS pick up the pilot to series.

Well, what say you? Are you any more on board with the idea of a 'HIMYM' spinoff now that CBS has officially ordered a pilot of 'How I Met Your Dad'? Does the name change nitpickingly bother you as much as it does us? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
