On April 10, 2016, a first-class stamp will be two cents cheaper than today, they will cost you 47 cents. This is the first time since 1919 that the cost of a first-class stamp has gone down. Why?

It's part of a prearranged agreement with Congress. The Post Office got to increase the price of a stamp by three cents two years ago to help it raise $4.6 billion in revenue.

The Post Office has asked Congress to keep the cost of a stamp at 49 cents, saying that reducing it to 47 cents will hurt the Post Office. The Post Office loses around $2 billion a year.
