Now that spring is here it’s time to get some of those things on your ‘honey do list’ done. Spring and summer are the most popular time to paint in Maine and Maine environmental officials would like you to do three things when you buy paint.

They are: buy the right amount of paint, find a way to use all the paint you buy and reuse or recycle leftover paint. A program called PaintCare was started several years ago and Maine is part of the program which includes seven other states.

There are about 90 sites that participate in PaintCare where you can bring unused paint. It can’t be more than a 5 gallon bucket (it can be more than one bucket though) and has to be tightly sealed. PaintCare says more than 1,000 pallet-size boxes of paint have been collected since they kicked off the effort on October 1, 2015.

You can visit the Department of Enviromental Protection website at maine.gov or call (800) 452-1942 for more information and a list of drop-off sites.
