While all of New England basks in the glory of the Patriots improbable 5th Super Bowl win last night, it is truck day for the Boston Red Sox.

What is truck day?

It is a rite of late winter in New England. The Red Sox's equipment truck will leave Fenway Park for its 1,480-mile trip to Fort Myers, Fla, spring training home for the Red Sox.

Die hard Sox and baseball fans view this day as the unofficial kick off what is ahead. Namely, warmer weather and baseball.

Pitchers and catchers report a week from today, but the equipment will be trucked down today.

It will include:

20,400 baseballs
1,100 bats
200 batting gloves
200 batting helmets
320 Batting Practice tops
160 white game jerseys
300 pairs of pants
400 t-shirts
400 pairs of socks
20 cases of bubble gum
60 cases of sunflower seeds

Hope springs eternal!
