Jason Aldean returns to a sound his longtime fans are familiar with on “Lights Come On,” the first single from his next studio album. There’s not a whiff of R&B influence to be found on this straightforward country rocker. It’s a song built for his live show.

Lyrically, "Lights Come On" is about that needed weekend release after a long 40 hours at the job. For the first time (and quite uniquely) he turns the camera on himself — especially at the bridge — but the song plays only to his crowd. After a few years away from his blue collar roots, Aldean returns to a sound he popularized with songs like “My Kinda Party” and “She’s Country.” It's a straightforward, no-thinking-needed rock song that relies on scorching electric guitars and an energy we all can't wait to feel once again.

For Aldean and many of today’s top male country stars, it’s all about the live show, so many singles (especially first singles from new albums) are built to feed that high-powered machine first. Radio’s needs have never run counter to this philosophy — an artist is tacitly encouraged to return to what’s worked before. “Lights Come On” does that and is certain to be a hit with fans in cars, at work, or in front of his electrifying stage on a Friday or Saturday night.

Did You Know?: Aldean is busy working on his seventh studio album. The previously three have all been released in October or November.

Jason Aldean, Country Traditionalist? It Happened:

Jason Aldean, “Lights Come On Lyrics”

“You’re a crack of dawn, Monday morning, coffee strong / Pouring everything you got into a paycheck Friday night / You’re a power stroke diesel, backhoe riding / King of beers, 18-wheeler driving / Living life in between the lines of clocking in and quitting time / But then the six-string circus comes to town / We hang them speakers over the crowd.”

Chorus:
“When the lights come on and everybody’s screamin’ / Lighters in the sky, yeah, and everybody’s singing / Every word to every song to the girl they’re takin’ home tonight / When the lights come on and everybody’s feelin’ / A hallelujah high from the floor to the ceiling / Yeah the drink that we’re drinkin’, the smoke that we’re smokin’ / The party we’re throwing’s going all night long when the light come on,”

“You’re a little shy thing with a wild side / On a night like this it just can’t hide / 'Cause it’s dyin’ to live it up  / So come on and raise your cup / If we’re talking about memories, yeah we’re gonna make ‘em / Talkin’ ‘bout rules you know we’re gonna break ‘em.”

“Yeah, we all the same cause we thinking the same thing / We on the same page 'cause we sipping the same drink / Here’s a little something to thank y’all for showing up / Aldean and the boys about to blow it up.”
