Jared Remy, the son of Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, has pleaded guilty to murder in the stabbing of his girlfriend last year.

According to the Associated Press, Remy entered the plea Tuesday in Middlesex Superior Court. Prosecutors say he fatally stabbed Jennifer Martel at the couple's Waltham apartment in August. The judge accepted the plea after questioning Remy.

Jared Remy was arrested Aug. 13 after he allegedly pushed Martel into a mirror. He was released on his own recognizance on Aug. 14 and allegedly stabbed Martel to death the next day.

The 35-year-old Remy and the 27-year-old Martel had a 5-year-old daughter. According to a report in the Boston Globe, Remy now faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
