The CMA Awards turn 50 in 2016, and to celebrate, the association has been bringing to fans some pretty unique crossovers between current hitmakers and country legends. In a new cover series titled Forever Country, Jon Pardi took on Randy Travis’ “Forever and Ever, Amen,” and even though Pardi was still in diapers when it released, he definitely does the classic justice.

The relative newcomer matches the tone of the song and keeps it simple, strumming an acoustic, accompanied only by another acoustic and a dobro player. His voice and throwback style shine as he croons the retro hit, which won Single and Song of the Year in 1987. It's clear Pardi is a personal fan of Travis’.

“Forever and Ever, Amen" appeared on Travis’ 1987 album Always & Forever and became his third No. 1 hit. The song not only earned accolades from the CMAs, but also took home a Grammy for Best Country & Western Song.

Pardi recently released his second single from his album California Sunrise, “Dirt on my Boots,” which fits snugly into his brand of vintage country sound. He’s getting ready to go out on the road with Kip Moore as part of his fall slate, titled the Me and My Kind Tour. It kicks off Sept. 30 in Oklahoma City and wraps Dec. 8 in Detroit. To promote it, the guys recently took some fans on a ride around town James Corden-style, showing off their karaoke skills. If the clip is any indication, these guys will be having a blast together on the road.
