Kennebec County District Attorney Maeghan Maloney says her office is reviewing an incident on the campus of Colby College that fire officials investigated as arson.

The Morning Sentinel reports Sgt. Ken Grimes of the state fire marshal's office said Wednesday that the case of the May 22 dumpster fire was forwarded to Maloney's office last week.

Police Chief Joseph Massey says the incident began when a crowd of students gathered around a large bonfire near a senior dormitory on Washington Street just hours before Colby's graduation ceremony.

Massey says many of the students were drinking and some began throwing bottles and cans at firefighters responding to the blaze.

Grimes said his office identified two students responsible for the fire and he's now waiting for Mahoney's "review and opinion." (AP)
