Picture it. Fairfield. 1993. A young Sharon Buck is getting ready to watch the Celtics take the court. Then the commercial comes on the air.

Larry Bird versus Michael Jordan....winner gets the McDonald's Big Mac.

Remember this?

I sure do. In the late 1980s, early 1990s, I was a HUGE Boston Celtics fan! Still am, but I will admit, I don't follow them as much. After the greats like Bird, McHale, Parrish, Johnson, and Ainge all retired, I kind of lost interest. I remember buying tickets to see the Celts play the Atlanta Hawks. I was so excited to see Larry Bird for the very first time.

He retired 3 days after we bought the tickets...

But I've had a renewed interest in the Celts now that I have someone to sit on the couch and enjoy the games with me, who doesn't mind me screaming "SCREEN!! SCREEN!" at the television. Chad puts up with alot.

It brings me back to the good old days when commercials were funny. 'The Showdown' was a McDonald's commercial pitting Larry Bird and Michael Jordan in a game of HORSE for Michael's coveted Big Mac lunch. I like how it brought basketball back to being a game being played by 'kids'. I remember seeing the first one and waiting in anticipation for the second to come to the tv to find out who wins. Below, you'll see both commercials rolled into one. I hope you enjoy them as much as I still do.
