The last bowling ball will be thrown down the lane for the last time on Wednesday at Waterville's Sparetime Receation, the cities last bowling alley.

Owner Andy Couture sold the building to the Centerpoint Community Church earlier this year.

The annual Bowl for Kids' Sake is going on today at the bowling facility.

Couture also owns the Sparetime Recreation Centers in Hallowell and Lewiston and those locations will remain open. In fact, much of the equipment from the Waterville location will go to the other two bowling centers.

Couture told the Kennebec Journal that around 500 people bowled at the center as part of leagues and another 1,000 to 2,000 people a week bowled there.
