Leah Turner is the epitome of confidence onstage. She's gritty and glamorousand knows how to work the crowd like a seasoned country veteran. But, even the most confident of performers has been known to follow some sort of calming pre-show ritual, and for Turner, it includes a little bit of whiskey and little bit of prayer.

The 'Pull Me Back' hitmaker tells Taste of Country, "I get nervous before I first walk out there," adding, "We always pray before we walk out there, asking that God would move through us and help us with our words."

She prays for confidence, explaining that "failure scares [her]" and the prospect that fans may not love her back makes her uneasy. To deal with that nerve-wracking possibility, Turner explains that along with a prayer before the show, she and her bands always do a shot of whiskey.

The songstress laughs, "It's a little Jack and Jesus."

Turner has a debut EP currently available.  It includes her current radio hit 'Pull Me Back' and four other songs that display her strong and feisty personality. She's currently on the road, learning the touring ropes from country star Brad Paisley on his 2014 Country Nation World Tour.

She previewed her set for media last week, giving many a first look at her live show. The California-bred singer barely stopped moving during a four-song set that included 'Take the Keys' and a sure crowd-favorite called 'My Finger.' The latter, a bluesy country-rocker about a broken engagement, is a true story.

"I think it's funny," she says when asked if the moment is difficult to relive every night. "It's kind of that last ... like 'Everyone is going to be singing and you know it's about you."

Turner is also set to play at the 2014 Taste of Country Music Festival in Hunter, N.Y. on June 14, where she'll entertain fans with her music, after throwing back some whiskey, of course.
