The Lewiston School Committee voted unanimously Monday night on the school budget that would increase property taxes 5.4 percent. That would translate for a home valued at $150,000 in Lewiston to a tax increase of $72.Lewiston School Superintendent Bill Webster asked for an 8.4 percent increase in March when he first proposed the school budget. The City Council at that time said the 8.4 percent increase was too high.

The budget will now go to the City Council for a vote on May 7, then to Lewiston voters in a May 14 referendum.

Lewiston residents, what do you think? Are you willing to pay higher taxes?
