‘Locavore Index’ Finds Mainers Like Our Local Foods
’Locavore’? Say what? It is like a local herbivore is a plant eater and a carnivore is a meat eater, a locavore is a local eater. Vermont was the top state in its commitment to growing and eating locally grown food, Maine was second.
The Strolling of the Heifers Locavore Index is an indicator of how states compare in their commitment to raising and eating locally grown food. They point out that local foods are more sustainable, healthier, better for the environment and economically positive than foods sourced from large-scale, globalized food systems.
Strolling of the Heifers is kinda of a cool group. Check it all out for yourself!
