Maine Actress To Play First Transgender Superhero

Nicole Maines of Orono Maine made National headlines with her battle against the school district for her right to use the girls bathroom. Now she's making headlines for a completely new reason. According to WGME 13, starting next season, Nicole will begin playing Nia Nal, aka Dreamer, on the CW hit series, Supergirl. Dreamer will be the first ever transgender superhero portrayed.

Maines got her acting start in 2015 with a role on Royal Pains and is currently a student at University of Maine but she is leaving the school to focus on acting. Supergirl returns on October 14.
