Good news for Maine motorists, gas prices in the state dropped almost three cents a gallon this week for a statewide average of $3.16 a gallon. Nationally the average for a gallon of gas dropped 3.7 cents a gallon to $3.05 per gallon.

Gas prices in Maine are 29 cents lower than at this time last year.

GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan says that Americans are saving almost $110 million a day on gasoline then they spent a year ago.

19 states have an average gas price under $3 a gallon, with South Carolina have the lowest average price per gallon nationally at $2.76

The lowest reported gas prices in Maine was $2.91 a gallon at a couple of gas stations in South Paris and Norway. Several Maine gas stations are reporting gas under $3 a gallon, mostly in the Oxford, Norway and South Paris area, Bangor, Newport and Madison.
