After several weeks of falling gas prices in Maine, they turned sharply higher this past week. According to the price-monitoring website MaineGasPrices.com, the average retail cost has gone up nearly 5 cents a gallon in Maine.

The average gallon of gas in Maine is now at $3.43. Maine's gas prices are 17 cents higher than the national average.

The lowest gas prices in Maine were found in Saco and Scarborough with gas coming in at $3.29 a gallon.

Oklahoma and Kansas are now the only two states with an average under $3 a gallon.

The lowest gas prices in the country that I could find was $2.62 a gallon in Rio Rancho in New Mexico.
