After months of sharp increases, gas prices in Maine the past few weeks have steadily started to drop. This week the average price for a gallon of gas in Maine is $3.69, that's down four cents in the past week.Maine's gas price of $3.69 a gallon is 12 cents higher than the national average. The lowest gas prices in New England are found in New Hampshire with a gallon of gas averaging $3.63.

The lowest gas prices in the country are in South Carolina with an average gallon of gas at $3.19. Let's do the math, if I drive to South Carolina and fill up my car and fill up a bunch of gas cans will it be worth the trip? Ummm..probably not!

Maine's lowest gas prices were found in Biddeford at $3.45 a gallon, no that road trip might pay off!

GasBuddy.com analyst Patrick DeHaan says prices nationally could be 10 to 25 cents a gallon lower than now come mid-September.
