Maine gas prices continued to fall this week, down another 3.5 cents per gallon this week for a statewide average of $2.55 a gallon. However, nationally the average for a gallon of gas went up eight cents a gallon, for a national average of $2.67 per gallon.

The lowest reported gas price in Maine was reported at a couple of gas stations in Orono, at $2.29 a gallon.

The rise in prices nationally are due to a refinery problem in the mid west, with many  gas stations seeing higher prices in that part of the country.

The price for a barrel of oil is down to $42.68. Experts say that gas and oil prices are expected to stay low through the rest of the year.
