The average price for a gallon of gasoline in Maine dipped 1.3 cents per gallon this past week for a statewide average of $2.10. That is $1.37 a gallon less than one year ago. It looks like this is about as low as gas prices will be going in Maine. Here's why.

Gregg Laskoski, a senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy, said in a news release Monday that refineries have cut back, leading to a rise in the bulk price gas stations pay for fuel.

Laskoski noted that wholesale prices climbed 20 cents from January 7 to January 30.

Brent crude oil rose to $53 per barrel on Monday.
