The sound that homeowners do not like to hear, the furnace kicking in, the sound of money going up the chimney. It might be a good idea to fill up you tank now, prices in Maine dropped in August.

A Maine government survey says that the average price of heating oil dropped 6 cents a gallon from in July for an average of $3.39 per gallon.

The Governor's Energy Office says that prices statewide vary quite a bit, as low as, $3.08 a gallon and as high as $3.87 per gallon.

Kerosene prices have also dropped an average of 4 cents per gallon to $3.87.

Propane prices in Maine were up an average of 3 cents per gallon from July to $2.85.

Heating oil and kerosene are both slightly cheaper this August than at this time last year, while propane is 25 cents per gallon more expensive.
