It's been an extremely cold winter in Maine and the sound of your furnace running means plenty of money going up the chimney. The cost of heating your home in Maine is now higher than at any point last year. The cost of a gallon of home heating oil in Maine jumped by 7 cents a gallon this past week to an average of $3.87.

The numbers were released by the Governor's Energy Office announced earlier this week that prices for kerosene and propane were also higher this week.

Kerosene in Maine has an average of $4.27 a gallon. Propane is at $3.35 a gallon.

Some good news, crude oil prices have started to drop and propane stocks are now at the highest they have been all season. We'll wait and see if the prices drop.
