Livability dot com has put together their inaugural list of The Best Beers In The Best Cities. They also are calling it 99 Beers In 99 Cities. Here's how they created their list of best beer cities.  They are good places to live, they are consumers of craft beer and they are producers of the best beer around.

Maine was well represented on this list.

2. Freeport, ME
18. Portland, ME
26. Bar Harbor, ME

Here's what they said about our Maine cities and towns.

Freeport, Maine: Population: 1,607

'Located just up Maine’s coast from Portland, Freeport is best known as the home of the flagship L.L. Bean store. It’s a mecca for shoppers and a great place to live if you’re into the outdoors. You can drink a variety of Maine beers at the historic Jameson Tavern, founded in 1779, or stop in for fresh brews from the Maine Beer Co. The Red Wheelbarrow scores the highest marks on RateBeer.com, but as one visitor to its tasting room said, “I’m very impressed with every Maine beer I have had so far.'

18. Portland, Maine:Population: 66,227

'Portland, Maine, is the largest city in Maine and is home to 500,000 residents, which is more than one-third of the state's total population. The community houses 230 restaurants that make Portland one of the top foodie cities in America, and about 15 breweries are also in operation. They include Gritty McDuff's Brewing Co. and one of the stalwarts of the New England craft culture, Allagash Brewing Co., which has more than 50 selections with names like Coolship Red and Tripel Ale.'

26. Bar Harbor, Maine: Population: 2,427

'A popular tourism destination in the Down East region of Maine is Bar Harbor, Maine, home to College of the Atlantic, Cadillac Mountain and the largest parts of Acadia National Park. Even though it’s a small community, Bar Harbor has a number of top microbreweries such as Bar Harbor Brewing Co., established in 1990 as the first brewery in town and home to an award-winning Cadillac Mountain Stout.'
