Maine Lawmakers Looking At Banning Cellphones While Driving

State Senator Roger Katz of Augusta proposed a bill that would prohibit Maine drivers from using handheld cellphones.

The Transportation Committee voted 7-6 against the bill on Friday. It still will go on to be considered by the full House and Senate.

Katz says the bill will make roads safer. Opponents say it's an overreach of government and not necessary because Maine already has distracted driving laws.
