Here in Maine and elsewhere in the country are asking residents to be on the lookout for the destructive Asian longhorned beetle this month.

According to usnews.com and the Department of Agriculture say August is the best month to check trees for the beetles that destroy trees. Tree deaths related to the beetle have been seen in New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Ohio.

It's being called August Tree Check Month. More than 160,000 trees have been lost to the beetle since 1996.
