The flood watches and warnings are in effect throughout the state of Maine and last night flooding claimed the life of a northern Maine man. According to the Maine Warden Service, Paul Oliver, 74, of Caswell in northern Aroostook county, died from drowning in flood waters.

Oliver had moved his truck across a flooded portion of Oliver Road and was returning back to his home across a flooded section of the road when he was swept downstream Tuesday night.

He had apparently stepped into the opening of a large culvert and was swept downstream.

His body was found by state game wardens early Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service in Gray expects the Kennebec to be well above flood stage tonight in North Sidney and Augusta.
