Maine native Eric Saindon has earned his second Oscar nomination in the past two years. The nominations were announced earlier today. Saindon is nominated for visual effects supervisor for the movie, 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.'He was also nominated in 2013 for the same category for the movie 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.'

Saindon grew up in Gorham and he has worked in visual effects for 'Hobbit' director Peter Jackson's Weta Digital in New Zealand for over 10 years. He has worked on the three 'Lord of the Rings' movies, as well as 'King Kong', 'Night at the Museum' and 'Avatar.'

The next 'Hobbit' film, 'The Hobbit:There and Back Again' is set for a December 2014 release.

After Saindon graduated from Gorham High School, he took classes at a community college and then studied architecture at Washington State University. He now lives with his wife Beth and their three children in Wellington, New Zealand.
