Its official, the hurricane season is underway and Maine officials are reminding Mainers to be prepared. Insurance Superintendent Eric Cioppa said it’s a good time to make sure you have adequate coverage.

According to usnews.com the warnings are especially if you live by the Maine coast. Most homeowners insurance policies don’t include flood insurance so they suggest you upgrade.

The official National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration forecast calls for 11 to 17 named storms, with five to nine hurricanes.

Of course there is no way to tell if a hurricane will make its way to Maine this season but is always a great idea to be prepared.
