Maine senators are supporting a push from lawmakers in the Northeast to protect endangered right whales.

A group from the Northeast are asking for a federal audit of Canada's whale conservation. Maine's two senators issued a joint statement saying the support the investigation goal.

According nhregister.com says there are about 450 right whales and the worry is entanglement in fishing lines or being hit by a ship.

Maine's senators are also asking NOAA not to set new restrictions on Maine fisheries.
