Troopers from the Maine State Police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying three people who broke into a Mount Vernon variety store on March 10.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, State Police said three people, two men and possibly a young woman broke into the Flying Pond Variety Store on Route 41 in Mount Vernon just after 10PM.

Troopers released surveillance photos of the trio and are asking the public to help identify them, McCausland said.

According to McCausland, the suspects' car was a silver sedan with damage to the headlight area on the passenger’s side.

Trooper Jesse Duda said entry into the store was gained by breaking the window in the front door, likely with a hammer. One of the intruders has numerous cuts to his left arm and back and has a tattoo on his forearm “1976”, McCausland said. The thieves stole four bottles of liquor and about a dozen packs of cigarettes. The alcohol stolen was Pinnacle and Popov vodka, Captain Morgan rum and Moonshine, McCausland added. Anyone with information on the trio is asked to call State Police in Augusta at 800-452-4664 or 624-7076.
