He was struck while crossing U.S. Route 2 near his home by a Toyota Highlander driven by William Young, 65, of Fayette.The 144 Maine traffic deaths, were 21 fewer that 2012.

Over the last five years, Maine has averaged 153 roadway deaths annually.

2011 recorded the lowest total of Maine traffic deaths with 136.

2013 included 12 motorcycle or moped fatalities and four deaths involving a bicycle.

There were zero moose-related roadway deaths in 2013.
