Maine has has a hard time keeping young people in the state and even a harder time getting young people to move here.
Maine is now offering an incentive to get young people to move to the state by offering to help pay off their student debt.

The deal is 'move to Maine' and the money you spend toward paying your student loan debt each year is subtracted from your state income taxes.

As an example, if you pay $1,800 toward your loan and owe the state $2,000 in taxes, you'll only end up paying Maine $200.

According to cnn.com it's all about attracting people from other state to the Maine workforce. with this deal they could get money back from the state if their loan payoff outweighs their taxes.
