Maine’s Most Distinctive Baby Names

The top baby names for 2015 have been released by the Social Security Administration. For the second year in a row Emma is the number one girls name and for the third year in a row Noah is the number one boys’ name, but what were the top names in Maine?

In Maine the number one boys name for 2015 was Liam and the number one girls name was Sophia.

They also listed the most distinctive name for 2015 in Maine. For girls it was Elliana (which means sun ray) and for boys the most distinctive name was Colby. There are two lines of thought on Colby as a boy’s name. Because it’s in Maine, Colby College is the natural thought as to why boys were named that but the other thought is it's an old Norse name meaning ‘dark village’.
