A couple wanted in connection with a shooting in Massachusetts was arrested after their car was stopped in Maine Saturday (March 29) morning. The two are being held on fugitive from justice charges.

Police throughout New England were looking for the car after hearing about the shooting in Mashpee, Massachusetts. Maine Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says a man was wounded in that town at around three o'clock Saturday morning.

The car was spotted on Interstate 95 in Bowdoin, Maine and was stopped at around 9:30 am, once police had enough assistance to handle the situation. Maine State Police, along with Topsham Police, and the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Department, ordered the couple out of the car at gunpoint. They did not resist arrest.

Facing charges are David Byron, 21, who grew up in Anson, Maine and Leah Wiinikainen of Centerville, MA. The two were taken to the Topsham Police Department for questioning and are being held at the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. Their first court hearing is scheduled for next week.
